Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Evans Bobie Opoku, has stated that the aim of the Democracy Cup has been attained.
He said this after the first edition of the Democracy Cup that was organized as part of activities marking the 30th anniversary of democratic governance in Ghana.
A special game between a select side from Ghana’s Parliament and former members of Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team-the Black Stars- was played as a curtain raiser to the main game between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The select side from Ghana’s Parliament won the game 3-1 and Honorable Bobie, who lament over the poor nature of the Accra Stadium pitch, stated that the objective for organizing the event was achieved.
“The objective of having this activity as part of the celebration is to bring Ghanaians together ahead of the elections (2024 Presidential and Parliamentary) is to preach peace. Today as you can see, everybody is happy. We are Ghanaians and we are interacting with each other…so this is the objective of having the Democracy Cup.”
Kotoko beat Hearts of Oak 2-1 to lift the Democracy Cup.
