The Ministry of Energy has clarified remarks made by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Energy Minister, regarding public calls for a load-shedding timetable amid ongoing power outages.

A statement signed by the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Kofi Abrefa Afena said the minister’s comments were taken out of context and distorted, denying accusations of insensitivity.

According to Mr. Afena, Dr. Prempeh stands firm against implementing a load management timetable, instead focusing on addressing the underlying causes of the current power challenges. He reiterated the minister’s stance based on information from the Electricity Company of Ghana, indicating that efforts are underway to tackle these issues.

The Energy Minister, speaking at an event in the Ashanti Region, challenged critics to devise their own timetables if they felt it was necessary. His comparison of the current energy situation to the ‘Dumsor’ era under former President John Mahama was in response to recent calls by the opposition NDC for a load management timetable, which he deemed politically motivated.

Mr Afena mentioned Dr. Prempeh’s sensitivity to the people’s concerns and assured the public that the ministry is diligently working with relevant agencies to resolve the temporary power challenges.
