A 15-year-old boy in Kaprae, a farming community in the Krachi Nchumuru District of the Oti Region, has been found dead in what is being treated as a suspected suicide.

According to reports gathered by Adom News, Obed Amatey Anim went fishing with his uncles on Monday while his father attended a funeral. Later, he was discovered hanging from a tree in the community, lifeless.

The circumstances surrounding the incident have left the community in shock and raised calls for a thorough investigation.

Speaking to Adom News, Paul Nyanglesi, the assembly member for the Kaprae-Akaniem electoral area, confirmed the tragedy. He said the incident had been reported to the police, and the boy’s body had been returned to the family for burial in Kaprae.

Nyanglesi added that Obed had no known disputes within the community, expressing confusion over the motives behind the act. He urged the police to carry out a comprehensive investigation, as some community members suspect foul play.

The boy’s grandfather, Teye Torgbenu, echoed these concerns, suggesting that his grandson may have been harmed by his uncles. He described Obed as healthy and noted that he had gone fishing with his uncle earlier the same day. Torgbenu called on authorities to ensure a proper investigation is conducted and that those responsible, if any, are held accountable.
