A fire outbreak on Thursday dawn at the Kwadaso Market in Kumasi, destroyed over 40 shops and the goods in them.

“All our plantain has been burnt. We are at a great loss, GH¢4,000 to GH¢5,000 worth of plantain all destroyed. We bought the plantain on credit and now have to pay it back, but we don’t know how to go about it,” a trader said.

Fire fighters from the Ghana National Fire Service faced obstructions and blockages at the market entrance, when they arrived to fight the inferno.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
